What Can Happen When Left Untreated?
Like most medical conditions if left untreated, varicose veins do not correct themselves but rather get worse and lead to a number of signs and symptoms in the legs.
The main factor that contributes to varicose vein development is heredity, or the predisposition to weak vein valves and walls. The likelihood of varicosities also increases as veins weaken with age. A previous leg injury may damage the valves in a vein which can result in a varicosity.
The following leg symptoms will develop when varicose veins are left untreated. These are usually prominent at the end of the day:
- Thickening and pigmentation of skin ulcer
- Heaviness or aching
- Tiredness or fatigue
- Throbbing pain
- Night cramps
- Restlessness
- Swelling
It is important to seek medical treatment early to reduce symptoms, prevent complications and achieve the best possible cosmetic results.
